The Public Utilities Commission announced a 15% increase in electricity tariffs for the 7-month period from June to December 2025.
This was at the press conference held at the Public Utilities Commission today (June 11) to announce the new tariffs.
These new tariffs are scheduled to be implemented from midnight today (June 11).
‘CEB profit in 2024 Rs. 61 billion’
The Ceylon Electricity Board had proposed an 18% increase in tariffs, claiming that it had incurred a loss of Rs. 8 billion due to the reduction in electricity tariffs in the first three months of this year.
Public consultation programs in this regard were currently being held covering all provinces of the island, and during those programs, strong criticism was leveled against the Ceylon Electricity Board’s calculations.

මෙම නව ගාස්තු අද (ජූනි 11) මධ්යම රාත්රියේ සිට ක්රියාත්මක වීමට නියමිත ය.
‘2024 ලංවිම ලාභය රු. බිලියන 61ක්’
මේ වසරේ පළමු මාස තුන තුළ ලංකා විදුලි බල මණ්ඩලය විදුලි ගාස්තු පහළ දැමීම නිසා රු. බිලියන 8ක් පාඩු ලබා ඇති බව පවසමින්, මණ්ඩලය 18%ක ගාස්තු ඉහළ දැමිය යුතු බවට යෝජනා කර තිබිණි.
ඒ සම්බන්ධ මහජන උපදේශන වැඩසටහන් මේ වන විට දිවයිනේ සියලු පළාත් ආවරණය කරමින් පැවැත්වූ අතර, එම වැඩසටහන්වලදී ලංකා විදුලි බල මණ්ඩලයේ ගණනය කිරීම් සම්බන්ධයෙන් දැඩි විවේචන එල්ල විය.
