On May 18, 2009, the war that had lasted until then ended with the death of LTTE leader Velupillai Prabhakaran at the hands of war heroes at the Nandikadal Lagoon.

Field Marshal Sarath Fonseka, who led the tri-services to end terrorism, Admiral of the Fleet Wasantha Karannagoda and Marshal of the Air Force Roshan Gunathilaka are also scheduled to participate in the National War Heroes Commemoration Ceremony, which will be held under the patronage of the Deputy Minister of Defense, Major General (retd) Aruna Jayasekara.

යුධ ජයග්රහණයට වසර 16ක් සපිරීම නිමිත්තෙන් “ජාතික විජයග්රාහි සැමරුම් උත්සවය” හෙට (19) දිනයේ පැවැත්වීමට නියමිතව තිබේ.
ශ්රී ජයවර්ධනපුර කෝට්ටේ පිහිටි රණවිරු ස්මාරකය අභියස දී පස්වරු 4 සිට 6 දක්වා මෙම සැමරුම් උත්සවය පැවැත්වීමට නියමිතයි.
නියෝජ්ය ආරක්ෂක අමාත්ය විශ්රාමික මේජර් ජනරාල් අරුණ ජයසේකර මහතාගේ ප්රධානත්වයෙන් පැවැත්වෙන මෙම ජාතික රණවිරු අනුස්මරණ උත්සවය සඳහා ත්රස්තවාදය නිමා කිරීමට ත්රිවිධ හමුදාවට නායකත්වය ලබාදුන් ෆීල්ඩ් මාර්ෂල් සරත් ෆොන්සේකා, අද්මිරාල් ඔෆ් ද ෆ්ලීට් වසන්ත කරන්නාගොඩ සහ මාර්ෂල් ඔෆ් ද එයාර් ෆෝස් රොෂාන් ගුණතිලක ද සහභාගී වීමට නියමිතව තිබේ.
