yet taken a decision on the new taxes that may be imposed on imported vehicles, says Cabinet Spokesperson Nalinda Jayatissa.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Addressing a media briefing, he said that the Ministry of Finance will issue an official statement in this regard soon.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">This statement was made amid increased interest from vehicle importers following the government&#8217;s decision to remove restrictions on the import of private vehicles.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Importers have requested the government to allow the import of hybrid vehicles up to seven years old from Japan to meet market demand.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">However, Minister Jayatissa clarified that the proposal was not discussed at the recent Cabinet meeting.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">He also noted that such proposals can only be considered if a formal proposal is submitted by the Ministry of Finance after discussions with vehicle importers.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The lifting of vehicle import restrictions has sparked widespread debate, with questions about the
