Advancing Faith, Community, and Social Responsibility<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The Kiribathgoda Kelaniya Young Men\u2019s Buddhist Association reaches a significant milestone in April 2026, completing 67 years of continuous service to religion and society, and stepping into its 68th year.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

To commemorate this occasion, the Association will hold its 67th Annual General Meeting on Sunday, April 26, 2026, at 3:00 PM at the Dharma Hall of Sri Sudarshanaramaya Temple.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

A Legacy Rooted in Buddhist Revival<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The foundation of Buddhist organizations in Sri Lanka dates back to 1880 with the establishment of the Buddhist Theosophical Society. Guided by pioneers such as Anagarika Dharmapala and Colonel Henry Steel Olcott, this movement inspired the formation of several influential societies, including the Maha Bodhi Society and later the YMBA network.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

From Humble Beginnings to a Strong Institution<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The Kiribathgoda Kelaniya YMBA traces its origins to August 3, 1958, when it was founded as the \u201cSri Kalyani Buddhist Society\u201d at Biyanwila Government Boys\u2019 School. Under the leadership of Mr. Jinadasa Pathinayake and with the support of over 80 participants, the Association began its journey inspired by the ideals of Buddhist service.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

By 1960, the Association had secured land and commenced construction of its headquarters. Over the decades, it has evolved into a well-established centre featuring religious, educational, and community facilities.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Guided by Strong Principles<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The Association continues to operate under five key objectives:<\/p>\n\n\n\n

* Promoting and facilitating the study of Buddhism<\/p>\n\n\n\n

* Encouraging the practice of Buddhist teachings in daily life<\/p>\n\n\n\n

* Fostering unity among the Buddhist community<\/p>\n\n\n\n

* Enhancing moral, cultural, and social development<\/p>\n\n\n\n

* Safeguarding and nurturing the Buddha Sasana<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Modern Progress and Community Impact<\/p>\n\n\n\n

In recent years, the Association has embraced modernization while preserving its core values. Major developments include the renovation of its main hall into a fully air-conditioned auditorium and the adoption of digital systems for administration and communication.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Its commitment to social service remains a defining feature. The Association operates elderly care facilities, maintains a well-utilized public library with a growing membership, and conducts free educational and wellness programs such as English classes and yoga sessions for the community.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
