Opposition Leader Sajith Premadasa launched a new research unit yesterday (Jan. 15) to gather views from trade unions, civil society organizations, professionals and the general public to improve the quality of the opposition’s role in Parliament.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The Office of the Opposition Leader in Parliament has established a media and research unit affiliated with it and the public can be provided with information via the WhatsApp number 0759570570 and the email address connect@oloparliament.gov.lk, the Opposition Leader’s Office said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The primary objective of the research unit is to obtain constructive information during the main debate and committee sessions when presenting the 2025 Budget Document this year, the Office said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The Opposition Leader points out the importance of contributing to debates based on accurate information in Parliament and the importance of the participatory process in representative democracy.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Similarly, the Opposition Leader raises the point that the role of a populist opposition can be fulfilled by providing views of trade unions to parliamentary sessions, not limited to the budget debate.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
