Some vehicles face taxes as high as 400% or 500%,\u201d he points out.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Prasad Manage also explains that these figures represent only one part of a complex pricing structure.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">There are four types of taxes that determine the total amount of tax on vehicle imports. They include; vehicle tax, luxury tax, customs duty and value added tax.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u201cOther taxes, including a special import tax calculated based on the value of the vehicle, luxury tax, customs duty and the existing 18% VAT \u2013 should be added to the cost, insurance and CIF (cost, insurance and freight) value.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u201cIn some cases, the cumulative taxes on some vehicles can go up by 600%,\u201d Prasad Manage points out.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">He advises the public to refrain from making advance payments or booking vehicles before the import process officially begins, warning that the final cost will only be clear after all taxes are calculated.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Despite the confusion, initial price listings for petrol and hybrid vehicles are currently being done by institutions.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Meanwhile, Sampath Merenchige, president of the Lanka Vehicle Importers Association, is urging the government to reconsider the restrictions imposed on the import of used vehicles.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">He suggests allowing the import of vehicles that are more than five years old from the date of manufacture.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">He also pointed out that this could reduce costs and expand consumer options.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u0dc0\u0dcf\u0dc4\u0db1\u0dc0\u0dbd\u0da7
